Treating with herbs is different than taking medications as we know in western terms.  Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) is aimed at balancing the body and treating the cause of your disharmony rather than just the symptoms.  Most people follow an herbal program for one to three months, a person will take herbs for a specific medical concern and in time may find their condition improving and eventually resolving.  Regular treatments work towards preventing disease which in turn will optimize one's health. One would then maintain their good health by taking herbal tonics before the change of each season. It is important that the herbs prescribed are taken on a regular basis, and as directed, to see change.

Chinese Herbal Medicine/CHM(also known as Traditional Chinese Medicine-TCM) is an ancient and holistic system of healing, based on the notion of harmony and balance,
and employing the ideas of prevention and moderation. CHM/TCM  believes there is an energy or life force in each body, known as qi (pronounced chee). In order for the body to achieve good health and be balanced, qi must be flowing freely. When there's too little or too much qi in one of the body's energy pathways, or when the flow of qi is blocked, illness results. One of the goals of CHM/TCM is to balance our bodies through promoting the natural flow of qi.
